Insurance Claims
There are essentially three types of insurance that parties in the construction industry encounter on a regular basis and need to be familiar with: (1) worker’s compensation, (2) Commercial General Liability (”CGL”) and (3) Builder’s Risk.
Worker’s Compensation Insurance is required of every contractor on a project and exists to guaranty quick payment for work related injuries and protects the parties from additional liability.
CGL insurance provides coverage for injuries to people (who aren’t construction workers under work comp) and damages to property other than the actual construction project itself. For example, it would provide coverage if an adjacent home to a construction project was damaged by construction activities.
Builders Risk Insurance provides coverage for damage to the actual construction project, for example, wind, fire, etc….
