Sinkhole Claim

Sinkholes in Florida

Sinkhole problems are common in Florida. Simple solutions to Florida sinkholes are not.  Sinkhole identification is sometimes less than an exact science.  Just because your insurance company says you don’t have a sinkhole doesn’t mean you don’t.  You have the right to have your own experts evaluate your property.  You also have the right to a neutral evaluator.  In some cases, it may be necessary to file a law suit against your own insurance company to get the coverage you are entitled to.  The attorneys at FBSW have experience handling all phases of a sinkhole dispute.

Other Settlement and Foundation Problems

Sinkholes are not the only cause of foundation and settlement problems.  “House settling” can be caused by several factors.  Expansive clay is present in veins throughout Florida.  If clay is too close to the foundation of a building it can cause significant damage as it expands and contracts.  Cracks in the foundation, cracks in walls and ceilings, problems with doors not closing properly because they have moved, are all problems that can be related to expansive clay.

Failure to use the right type of material under the slab, or failure to properly compact the material under the slab can also cause significant settlement problems.  The subsurface conditions under a building should be tested and properly prepared before construction.  The Board Certified Construction Lawyers at FBSW have experience dealing with expansive clay and other foundation problems.
